As a fourth-generation leader, Matt continues the family tradition with a fresh perspective, a passion for people, and a deep commitment to serving the community that raised him.
What drew you to work for MetzWood Insurance initially?
I am the fourth generation of my family to work at MetzWood, so it’s basically in my genes! After working for a different insurance company for two years out of college, my father asked me to move home and give the family business a try in 2012.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone shopping for different insurance policies?
Everyone knows you’re going to get better advice from an agent, but they probably don't know it will save you time as well. Our staff proactively monitors changes in your account and will ensure that you will always have a great insurance program. When the market changes, you don't need to personally call dozens of insurance companies because we do that for you!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Switzerland - I've always found images of Swiss landscapes to be breathtakingly beautiful. I also really enjoy skiing and have a big Bernese Mountain Dog named Millie that would feel right at home there!
Tell us something you’re passionate about.
I am an avid golfer and like to think of myself as a student of the game. In addition to the joy of playing the game itself, I enjoy the variety in designs and landscapes of all of the courses you get to play. Unlike many other sports, there is no uniform court or field, and every place you play is a unique adventure. I have won eight club championships at my home club, Columbia Golf & Country Club.
What causes or charities are important to you?
An organization that is very important to me and my family is the Morris Memorial Association. ‘The Morris’ is the primary provider of youth recreation in the greater Chatham area, offering sports programs and a free after-school program where kids can have fun in a safe, supervised environment. Having grown up as a Morris kid, I learned lessons through sports that have helped me throughout life. My family has supported The Morris for many years, as my father once served as president and the gymnasium now bears his name. Continuing that legacy is especially meaningful to me.
What do you like most about the area you live?
One of the things I like most about the area is just the natural beauty. My wife, Annie, and I enjoy going for hikes with our son, Ollie, at the various Columbia Land Conservancy locations. Our area is also a close-knit community where people give back and neighbors look out for each other.
What's something surprising your clients might not know about you?
My clients might be surprised to know that I performed magic throughout high school and college, and still know many good card tricks!
