Meet Emma Sawyer | MetzWood Staff Spotlight

Emma Sawyer is a licensed advisor and valued member of our team. Her experience with MetzWood started well before her career, as her family is a long-time client! Beyond her work in insurance, she enjoys traveling, unique culinary experiences, and supporting her community. Learn about her life outside of MetzWood in our staff spotlight!

What drew you to work for MetzWood Insurance initially?
After working for a large corporation and seeing how they treated their employees, I was craving an environment where my employers actually cared about my well-being. MetzWood has a great reputation and it has lived up to its name. I can't imagine going back to a place that says they care but actually doesn't value your individual skills and input.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone shopping for different insurance policies?
Price is not as important as service. Period.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I have a long list of places to see on my "To Do" list, but I would love more than anything to take a trip with my mom and sister to Portugal. The culture and art and most importantly, the food, are what dreams are made of.

Tell us something you’re passionate about.
I am passionate about food and culinary experiences! I worked for about 15 years in the restaurant industry and the hard work and dedication that goes into running a seamless nightly service is no small feat. I love to go out to eat with friends, try new spots, and taste new things. There is nothing I won't try at least once. I think there is nothing better than sharing a bunch of dishes off of a locally sourced menu, prepared with love by a talented chef. I think it's so cool that something as simple as a moment laughing with your friends around a table and being fully present can be medicine for the soul and be a memory you cherish forever.

What causes or charities are important to you?
I have always been drawn to charities that help LGBTQ+ youth. Young people who feel marginalized or are treated as other are often left without resources for mental health services and guidance. These kids are often rejected by their own families and need help finding community, services, and even food. I am a huge fan of In Our Own Voices in Albany, which advocates for LGBT people of color on both individual and systemic levels.

What do you like most about the area you live?
I grew up in Chatham and coming back to the area as an adult gave me a new found love for the beautiful place that we live. I love being able to see the stars at night. When you live in a city, you forget how much magic exists in the nature around you. I love that everywhere I look, I can find something beautiful to appreciate.

What's something surprising your clients might not know about you?
Before working at MetzWood, I was a MetzWood client. My entire family is MetzWood Insured and has been since they moved to the area when I was a baby. We're a MetzWood family!

As a lifelong MetzWood member, we value Emma’s experience as a licensed advisor and a client. Her unique perspective strengthens her ability to present our clients with their perfect insurance solutions. We’re grateful for the hard work and passion she brings to the table!
