Dana’s people-first approach and passion for community align perfectly with MetzWood’s values.
What drew you to work for MetzWood Insurance initially?
I had worked in my family's insurance agency, Oakwood Associates and Sharpe Agency, since I was 18. Twenty years later, in 2021, my family was ready to retire. At that point, they decided to sell the business to MetzWood Insurance. I was very excited about this new opportunity to work for MetzWood, as I had heard many great things about their community-oriented approach.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone shopping for different insurance policies?
Your insurance policy should not be chosen solely based on price. While purchasing insurance directly through a website may seem empowering or less expensive, the ability to call a real person directly, rather than an insurance company's number, makes a significant difference when filing a claim or asking a simple question. We witness the impact of this personal touch daily.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would choose Hawaii because my dad spent a few years there when he was growing up. I would love to see its beauty, as I heard about it often as a child.
Tell us something you’re passionate about.
I am passionate about many things, but one of the most important to me is being a positive person and always trying to make others happy, especially my two amazing children and fiancée.
What causes or charities are important to you?
Finding a cure for ALS is a personal mission for me, as my grandmother died of this disease. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive nervous system disorder that attacks and kills motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, which control voluntary muscles. This leads to muscle weakness, loss of motor function, and difficulty with activities such as speaking, walking, swallowing, and eventually breathing. While there is no cure for ALS, treatments focus on managing symptoms, and some medications can help slow the disease's progression.
What do you like most about the area you live?
The beauty of upstate New York is particularly striking in the fall and winter months. In autumn, the foliage presents an amazing spectacle, while winter brings the serene beauty of snow-covered landscapes and a profound silence.
What's something surprising your clients might not know about you?
My brother and I are less than one year apart in age. My mom refers to us as "Irish twins."
Dana’s dedication to her clients, her family, and the community is a true reflection of the care and personal attention you can expect when working with the MetzWood Insurance team.
